Niall Jones has transformed MoMA PS1’s cinema while in residence at the museum for the last three months, evolving it into an installation space that nods to and subverts the traditional experience of watching film and video. By addressing the most iconic elements of the cinema—especially the seating and the screen—Jones rearranges the spatial and material relationships in this room of uninhibited matter: a theater of disintegration.
On September 10, 11, and 12, the public will be invited into the cinema to experience this new environment and watch it evolve in real time with an irregular schedule of performative interruptions (“screenings”).
