Wachtel came up in the Pictures Generation, a group of artists who found their material in television, magazines, and whatever was lying around. With the onset of the internet, Wachtel has found a new, infinite pile of stock to pull from, whether that be silkscreening a Getty-stock Janis Joplin, a unicorn, and Katy Perry dressed, for reasons the painting declines to explain, as a hamburger.
