Kids are taking over the museum at MoMA PS1’s Family Festival!

Make art, explore interactive environments, enjoy family-friendly dining, and hit the dancefloor. The festival opens a space for imagination, inviting children to create new worlds, encounter artist-created installations, build fantastic structures, and transform recycled materials.

Please Note
There are no tickets remaining for Family Festival, however many of the festival’s activities are accessible to all museum visitors. Stop by our plaza to take a dance class at the Queensboro Dance Festival, boogie to DJs on our terrace, pick up a copy of our family guide, or enjoy our block building activity in the courtyard. These activities are all available with your general admission ticket, in addition to our full slate of exhibitions.

A large portion of the festival will be held outside. Attendees will be notified with more information in case of inclement weather.

Program

Building Together

Stack, arrange, and build towering structures using blocks inspired by Yto Barrada’s Le Grand Soir. Recommended for ages 2–5.

Silkscreen Prints

Silkscreen your own Family Festival poster. Recommended for ages 4+.

Communal Leaf Garden by Little Manila Queens

Rooted in the Filipino values of pahina (shared labor, or a page in a story) and kapwa (shared self), this participatory art project invites families to explore care, reciprocity, and community through hands-on artmaking. Across three interconnected activities, participants are encouraged to create, reflect, and contribute to a growing collaborative garden installation. The program is led by members of Little Manila Queens Bayanihan Arts, a grassroots collective of artists and cultural workers who celebrate the diasporic Filipino communities in Woodside, Queens, and throughout New York. Take something to carry, leave something to grow. Recommended for ages 3+.

Golden Crowns of Queens by Malikah

Decorate your own golden paper crown to celebrate who you are, where you come from, and what makes you feel powerful. Inspired by the crowns of ancient Egyptian royalty and the vibrant neighborhoods of our borough, each child designs a crown that reflects their imagination. This program is led by Malikah, a global feminist grassroots collective committed to building safety and power through healing justice, self-defense, and financial literacy. Recommended for ages 4 and up.

RE-PURRRRPOSE: An Upcycling Cat Toy Workshop by Whitney Claflin

Join artist Whitney Claflin, whose exhibition I was wearing this when you met me is on view in the galleries, to create personalized string toys for cats. String toys are an interactive way to keep your cat healthy and enriched, as they mimic prey and encourage playful bonding. Leather cord, cardboard, and fabric will be provided, and participants are alsoencouraged to bring clean cloth (socks, towels, t-shirts) or cardboard from home to make a toy your cat's nose will know. If there’s no furry friend at home, cat toys double as excellent wands! Recommended for ages 4+.

A Soft Place to Land by Lexy Ho-Tai

The world can feel hard. Being human is strange. Let’s create a soft place to land. Welcome to this ever-changing squishy world, lovingly stitched from upcycled textiles. Come play, create, and rest among strange, yet familiar creatures, including the debut of a new giant collaborative cuddle monster. Loosen up your human suits—all creatures, beings, and parts of you are welcome and celebrated here! Recommended for ages 2–6.

Assemblage

Arrange everyday objects to create a unique work of art. Recommended for ages 2+.

Giving Thanks Game by Tecumseh Ceaser

Practice gratitude while learning words in local native languages in this collaborative and creative game led by artist Tecumseh Caesar. Participants will learn to say things they are grateful for in the Algonquian language as they color and decorate a card to take home. Recommended for ages 4+.

Join a family-friendly dance lesson led by Queens-based artists, or let loose on an open dance floor to a live band! The Queensboro Dance Festival invites audiences to join the Latin Beats Plaza Party.

A Parently Kidding from Va$htie
A Parently Kidding is a daytime dance party from New York-based director, designer, and DJ Va$htie. As a DJ, she has spun for Madonna, Prince, and Drake, as well as major nightclubs worldwide. Get the whole family on the dancefloor and enjoy Va$htie’s infectious beats!

FAQs

The festival will run from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m., with three timed entry slots (RSVP required): 10 a.m.–12 p.m. 12–2 p.m. 2–4 p.m.

All ages are welcome at the festival! Most activities are best suited to artists age 2-12, in the company of an adult.

Enter through our main entrance at 22-25 Jackson Avenue, Queens, NY 11101.

RSVP to reserve your free timed ticket. Bags will be checked.

Lockers are available on the first floor for visitors to use free of charge. Lockers are 72 × 15 × 18". Please do not store valuables in the lockers or leave items overnight. MoMA PS1 is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property. Wheelchair accessible lockers are available.

Yes, limited capacity, self-service stroller storage is available. PS1 is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Yes, scooters can be stored with strollers in designated areas.

Select areas of the festival will be interactive. Outside of these areas, please admire artwork from a distance, at least an arm’s length away and with respect for any stanchions in place. Touching art, platforms, or vitrines is not permitted (unless a sign or label indicates otherwise).

Still photography and video are permitted for personal, non-commercial use only unless otherwise noted. Flash, tripods, and camera extension poles are not allowed. We encourage everyone to be mindful of other visitors’ privacy, especially that of children, when taking photographs.

Nursing is permitted onsite, and a lactation room is available in the basement on a first-come, first-served basis. Please request access to the lactation room from a Visitor Engagement staff member.

There is a changing table on the first-floor bathroom.

Free Wi-Fi is available on site.

A charging station is available in the lobby on a first-come, first-served basis.

Wheelchairs are available free of charge at our main entrance on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a ramp to the museum entrance, and an elevator in the building. Please note that the festival’s outdoor activities take place on gravel, which may make wheelchair access difficult. Learn more about accessibility at MoMA PS1.
